June 14, 2024 — Hitachi Energy has announced a significant $1.5 billion investment aimed at expanding its global transformer production capacity by 2027. This strategic move is designed to meet the escalating global demand for electrical transformers, driven by rapid urbanization, industrialization, and the transition to renewable energy sources.
Bruno Melles, Managing Director of the Transformers Business at Hitachi Energy, highlighted the unprecedented scale of demand for transformers and electrical equipment. "We are investing to address our customers' mid- and long-term needs. By enhancing our global footprint and advancing our digital and technological capabilities, we aim to deliver more sustainable and reliable solutions," he said during the company's Energy & Transformers Days event in Rome.
As part of this initiative, Hitachi Energy will establish a new state-of-the-art transformer factory in Finland, with an investment of around $180 million. This facility, covering 30,000 square meters, will focus on clean technology development for renewables and industrial electrification.
This investment is part of a broader $3 billion plan to support the electrification of the energy system, which includes expansions in Europe, the Americas, and Asia. The move is expected to create over 4,000 jobs globally, enhancing Hitachi Energy's ability to respond swiftly to market demands and support the global shift towards a more sustainable energy future (Hitachi Energy).
